Today, Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, is Earth Day.  This year´s Earth Day theme is: OUR POWER, OUR PLANET.

The connection between Earth Day and the Wellbeing Economy is rooted in a shared vision: prioritising the health of the planet and the people who live on it.

Here’s how they align:

🌍 Earth Day

  • Earth Day, celebrated every April 22nd, raises awareness about environmental issues and promotes actions to protect the planet.

  • It focuses on climate change, biodiversity, pollution, conservation, and sustainable practices.

💚 Wellbeing Economy

  • A Wellbeing Economy is an economic system designed to serve people and the planet, not just profit.

  • It values quality of life, equity, sustainability, and holistic progress over traditional GDP growth.

🌱 The Connection

  1. Shared Goals

    • Both advocate for sustainability, regeneration, and long-term thinking.

    • The Wellbeing Economy promotes economic models that reduce environmental harm, like circular economies, green jobs, and renewable energy, echoing Earth Day’s goals.

  2. People + Planet Together

    • Earth Day emphasises the interdependence of environmental and human health.

    • The Wellbeing Economy recognises that economic systems must support environmental health for people to thrive.

  3. Systemic Change

    • Earth Day campaigns often call for systemic action (policy change, corporate responsibility).

    • A Wellbeing Economy is a systemic transformation, rethinking how and why we produce, consume, and measure success.

  4. Global Collaboration

    • Both movements are international and emphasise the need for cooperation across borders to address global challenges.
