A Warm Welcome from the President of Iceland

Dear friends,
As the patron of the annual Wellbeing Economy Forum, I welcome you to this important event, which will be held at Harpa in Reykjavík on May 8-9, 2025.
Since 2018, the Icelandic government has proudly collaborated with like-minded nations—Finland, Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, and Wales—through the Wellbeing Economy Governments (WEGo) initiative. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to creating environments that prioritize people's well-being and the health of our planet.
A Wellbeing Economy goes beyond traditional measures of success. It encompasses various factors, including housing security, mental and physical health, environmental sustainability, life satisfaction, civic participation, community safety, and a balanced work- life dynamic. We have a unique opportunity to make meaningful progress in these areas together.
The Directorate of Health in Iceland organises the Forum in partnership with a variety of local and international stakeholders, including the Prime Minister's Office in Iceland, the Ministry of Health in Iceland, the City of Reykjavík, WEGo, OECD, WHO-Europe, UNESCO, the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll), the Club of Rome, Earth for All, EuroHealthNet, the Association of Local Authorities in Iceland, and Festa – Center for Sustainability in Iceland.
The event is part of the Joint Action Prevent Non-Communicable Diseases (JA PreventNCD) project, which is co-funded by the European Union. As a key component of JA PreventNCD, the Forum supports strategies to reduce Europe’s burden of cancers and other NCDs by addressing key health determinants.
The unique insights and experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds in politics, business, and academia will be invaluable as we discuss policies and practices that can truly enhance the well-being of individuals and communities. Together, we can pave the way toward a brighter, more sustainable, and equitable future for all.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Warm regards,
Halla Tómasdóttir
President of Iceland
